EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A teacher in Effingham County charged with inappropriate contact with a child has been terminated from her job.

The school board has voted to terminate 22-year-old Kayla Zittrouer's employment at Effingham County Middle School. She was a fairly new teacher there who taught special education.

"We had a hearing on Tuesday and the board voted to terminate her employment," said Superintendent Randy Shearouse.

Zittrouer is facing multiple charges related to accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct with a boy who is a student at the school. Investigators say the student was 14-years-old male.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Zittrouer not only sent obscene pictures from her phone to the student, but there was some sort of sexual contact as well.

The student's mother, who did not wish to be identified to protect her son, said she can't believe her child was victimized by a person who is supposed to be trusted with kids.

"As parents, we send our kids to school hoping they'll be safe,” she said. “The last thing you think is you'll get a call saying ‘hey, we need to talk to you. One of our teachers is sending your child a nude picture.”

Zittrouer has been released on bond and was on paid administrative leave. She faces several charges, including: child molestation, enticing a child, cruelty to children, computer pornography and sexual assault by a teacher.
