Top Teacher--Eleanor Gaither

Eleanor Gaither Eleanor Gaither

Math is more than just numbers. It's about finding solutions. Eleanor Gaither tries to get the most out of her sixth and seventh grade students at Calvary Baptist Day School. Not just when it comes to their math problems, but with life. She treats students as if they are her own children.

"I love working with the kids, here at Calvary, we're like a family," she said. "At new orientation, we tell them welcome to the family."

Gaither has been a part of the teaching family for 20 years. "I think I was inspired by great teacher. I felt like this is where I wanted to be."

Student Jessica Crisler told us, "She's awesome, she makes class fun, she's real cool."

"She's really good," agreed classmate Cole Morris. "Whenever she does a problem, always does an example to help us."

"The best part of teaching for me is to see the look on their faces, when they finally get that math concept," Gaither said. "I'm trying to get across to them, especially some of the slower learners, when the light bulb comes on."

Eleanor Gaither, this week's WTOC Top Teacher.
