(WMC) -

A new Facebook game is encouraging children to disappear from home.

It is called the “Game of 72,” calling for kids to go missing without a trace for 72 hours.

"It's all over Facebook basically, a lot of my friends are sharing it," 13-year-old Emma Steffan said.

Emma says she knew about the game before her parents did. Teens say it is hard for parents to stay ahead of those types of Facebook challenges.

According to media reports, authorities were alerted about the game after a 13-year-old girl from France went missing for three days.

While some call the game a hoax, one mother says the possibility is too much to ignore.

"That's not OK on any level. That would just make me a nervous wreck to even think about that she was even thinking about doing it, let alone actually following through with it."

Angie Treat says from what she has read, kids pull off the stunt through Facebook in secret so that even afterwards, the game cannot be tracked.

"She was deleting the messages and logging right back out," Treat said.

So far, police have not linked the Facebook challenge to any missing persons cases.

Shelby County deputies say they had not heard of the game.
