I-16 back open in Treutlen County following fatal accident

TREUTLEN CO., GA (WTOC) - According to the Georgia State Patrol office in Swainsboro, three people were killed in an early morning wreck on Interstate 16 in Treutlen County near mile marker 72.

A tractor trailer and a Scion were both traveling westbound when the car was bit from behind by the tractor trailer and became lodged in the front of the truck. Both vehicles jumped the media into eastbound traffic. Both lanes of traffic were blocked for most of Friday, but both westbound lanes have since open, while one eastbound lane is now open.

One female and two males, all from the Scion, were killed during the wreck. Names have not yet been released while family is being notified, but officials said all three were from Northwest Georgia.
