POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Summer is here and Pooler is expanding with new shopping options, eateries and entertainment. But what is there to do for families and children under 13?

Since opening its gates in May, Surf Lagoon has not only brought more family-friendly flavor to the city of Pooler, but more foot traffic as well. Aside from Surf Lagoon's contribution of more visitors and residents alike, the newly opened Tanger Outlets has brought in a fair number of crowds as well.

WTOC spoke to Wess Long who is the general manager of Surf Lagoon. He shared a lot of input and facts about the water park.

“The water park was an idea that was thrown around as a possibility," Long mentioned. "The owners and investors of the land were looking at ways to utilize the land and what they could bring to the community to compliment what was already here."

Some may ask, 'What is there to do at Surf Lagoon' or 'What are the attractions?' Surf Lagoon has a plethora of attractions such as: Shortboarders, Layback Lagoon, multiple slides and their Shorebreak Beach.

The Shortboarders is the water park's Splashzone that has water fountains. The Layback Lagoon is like a lazy river that is 900 feet long. Patrons can float on inflatable devices and enjoy some relaxation time.

Shorebreak Beach is the park's lay out and sit area where there is plenty of shade.

Lastly, there are four different types of slides: Green Hurricane Tube Slide, The Slingshot, Fuchsia Fury and Family Fun Tube Slide. The Slingshot is voted as best in the park.

Aside from the differences Splash at the Boro and Surf Lagoon, Long expressed how there is still room for both water parks.

"We think there is room for both of us to thrive and survive; there is no doubt that they probably feel the same way," he said.

WTOC briefly spoke to Savannah native Otis Davis, who was with his family of four and said they would definitely go back .

"I wanted to have some fun today; I wanted to go down the lazy river," he said.

Whether you're out of town or a resident of Pooler, come take a swim or just hang out at Surf Lagoon.

General admission cost is $19.99 for people who are 48 inches or taller. Even though pricing is $14.99 for people who are 47 inches or shorter. Children under 2-years-old are free. The water park also accepts military discount and group pricing.
