U.S. Coast Guard to hold demonstration to celebrate 225th birthday

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The United States Coast Guard celebrates its 225th birthday on Tuesday.

In celebration of that milestone, the USCG Air Station in coordination with Station Tybee will perform a search and rescue demonstration on River St. in front of the Rouksakis Plaza on Aug. 8th beginning at 11 a.m. and running till noon.

Included will be units from Station Tybee and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The USCG Cutter TARPON will be in attendance and on display for the public from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Another exhibit will be on display including all the gear required by the USCG for a recreational boater.

Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson and City of Savannah Councilwoman Mary Ellen Sprague will be in attendance to present a Proclamation of appreciation to representatives of the over 300 members in six stations of the USCG living in or near Savannah.
