Canine team from Maine sent to search Savannah coast for missing boys

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A volunteer search and rescue group from Maine has sent a canine team to search the Savannah coast for the two teenage boys who went missing off the coast of Florida.

This is according to DEEMI, a non-profit organization that specializes in search and rescue efforts.

14-year-olds Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen disappeared at sea more than a week ago.
The Coast Guard called off their search after a week, but the families have since launched private search efforts to find the boys.

The group from Maine is also coordinating an air search using high-resolution photos to look for the boys. They are doing all of this voluntarily and are not receiving any payment from the families.

A pair of life vests were found on a sand bar 20 miles to the Southeast of Savannah, but there is no confirmation that those are related to the missing boys.

There are also a number of volunteer pilots that are still helping with the search.

The GoFundMe donation page set up by the family has now raised more than $472,000 in the past week.
