Senior dogs finding fur-ever homes

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Nearly all of the senior dogs at the Humane Society of Greater Savannah have found new homes.

Older dogs are usually the last to be adopted and they tend to stay at shelters longer. The Humane Society believes recent efforts to spotlight older dogs on social media has helped, saying the reputation that shelter animals are "damaged" or "unwanted" is going away.

Megan Collins, Director of Operations at the Humane Society, said, "There's not that stigma anymore. The Humane Society has healthy, adoptable animals that would be a great addition to anyone's family. They're healthy, they have great dispositions.”

The Humane Society only has two senior dogs up for adoption right now. On average, they shelter about a dozen older dogs at a time.
