'Push Back the Pipeline' leaders discuss recent Kinder Morgan explosion

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Kinder Morgan pipeline exploded in Texas, injuring two people and evacuating 150 homes.

This coming just months after the Georgia Department of Transportation rejected the company’s plan to build the billion dollar Palmetto Pipeline that would run through most of the area.

Push Back the Pipeline leaders say there’s always going to be accidents like this when companies try to rush to bring the product to market.

“Accidents do happen and I'm not against all pipelines everywhere for all time. I do understand that America needs infrastructure, but I would like communities and individuals around the nation to stand up and pay real close attention to safety records and what they're being promised,” Kaycee Allan, Push Back the Pipeline, said.

Kinder Morgan released a statement today:

"Kinder Morgan is working to investigate the cause of the release...which is currently unknown. The incident was detected immediately. And the company promptly took steps to shut down the line and report it."
