Garden City receives high ISO rating

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

The Insurance Service Office just completed a Public Protection Classification survey for Garden City and the fire department, rating the city a three - they're in the top eight percent of the nearly 50,000 rated communities across the U.S.

This program plays an important role because most insurers use it when deciding what business to write, coverages to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance. So this rating will save homeowners money on insurance premiums in the long run.

Chief Blake Hodge, Garden City Fire Department, said, "The numbers are one through ten. One is if you meet all the criteria and the benchmarks set forth by ISO and the ten being if you did not have a fire station within five miles of your residents and you are more than 100 feet away from a fire hydrant."

The classification survey also provides fire departments with a valuable benchmark, and is used by many departments as a planning and budgeting tool.
