Vietnam War veterans honored Thursday at Armstrong

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A special ceremony honoring Vietnam War veterans was held Thursday evening at Armstrong State University.

The event is to honor those veterans that came home 50 years ago without a proper welcome back.

Each veteran was called on, one by one, to receive a certificate of appreciation from Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, handed out by Congressman Buddy Carter and VA Commissioner Mike Roby.

Organizers say they couldn't have done it without the University's help and support.

"For the governor to present this certificate, is letting the veteran know that Georgia is proud of their services in Vietnam,” said Frank Mullis, event organizer and service officer, VA clinic.

Congressman Carter added, "We're presenting the pins tonight from the federal government. The certificates came from the state government, it's a combination of both and that's what makes it so very special."

The veterans were also treated to a nice dinner with plenty of time to catch up on old memories.
