SCMPD will be firing shots to test ShotSpotter system Tuesday evening

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police will be firing shots to test the ShotSpotter system in locations within the Downtown Precinct Tuesday from approximately 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Shots may be heard by those at indoor and outdoor locations.

Metro officers, both in uniform and in plain clothes, will be present to reassure the public of its safety.

ShotSpotter has been installed in areas around Savannah in a joint effort by the city and SCAD. It uses a series of sound sensors to immediately detect gunshots and their site of origin.
