Driver involved in fatal accident on Talmadge Bridge speaks

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate Monday morning’s fatal accident involving a sports car, pick-up truck and a log truck.

The driver of the log truck said he was on his way to drop off a load at International Paper when he was struck from behind.

"I felt the white car strike me on the back of my trailer, and that's when I heard the black truck hit the white car,” said the log truck driver, who wishes to remain anonymous at this time.

When he looked into his rear view mirror, he said the sight was horrifying.

"I saw fire coming from the car, that's when I pulled over to the side of the road and that's when I dialed 911,” said the driver.

He said he was going about 45 miles per hour, but speed may have been a factor with the driver who hit him.

"All I could see was that he was coming too fast," he said.

And while he says he didn't cause the accident, he's still beside himself that someone died from hitting the truck he was driving.

"I'm very lucky, but I hate to have to go through it though. I hate that it ended up this way,” he said.

MAIT continues to investigate. Southbound lanes were closed for more than three hours Monday.
