'Stop the Violence' rally interrupted by another shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A “Stop the Violence” rally at the 34th block of Montgomery Street was interrupted by the reports of another shooting.

Citizens and ministers attending the rally rushed over to the shooting scene to pray for the child and plead for an end to the violence.

"Just to hear that there was another shooting, you know, gun violence involved, you know, it makes us more determined. It shows us that there is a need regardless of where you are in the Savannah area. In one part of the city, one day there's a shooting on the east side, the next day there's a shooting on the west side."  Marco George, left rally to attend shooting scene.

Thursday’s event started at 6 p.m., hosted by the Bullhorn Crew, a Savannah grassroots group made up of citizens that respond to and participate in multiple citywide matters like these shootings.

The organizer, Shawntray Grant, was hoping to bring all local groups, citizens, and community leaders together.

"The main reason to do the rallies all over Savannah is to raise awareness that we have a problem. To raise awareness that we have supporters out there from each community. To raise the awareness that when something happens to a victim, it's not just the family that holds the problem, it's the whole city. So when somebody gets shot on the east side, the west side, the south side, or the downtown area, it hurts everyone,” said Grant.
