SCMPD removed car found in Lazaretto Creek

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Marine Units pulled a car from Lazaretto Creek off of U.S. Highway 80 near Tybee Island Friday afternoon.

Tybee police officers stopped a suspicious person walking across the Lazeretto Creek bridge Thursday night. When questioned, that person said their car had gone into the creek. Police tried to find the car last night, but decided to wait until daylight to continue the search.

"So we were going fishing this morning. We put the boat on the ramp. We started heading to our first spot and sure enough I'm like what in the world is that in the water, and it ended up being the back of a hatchback to a car. So we called it in first thing this morning,” said Vic Sasser, spotted car in water.
