Crime tips are starting to flow rather than trickle

For a while, the phone calls were few and far between at CrimeStoppers of Savannah-Chatham County, but lately, they've seen an uptick in calls.

Catherine Neal with the organization says, "There have been more calls, more tips, and more credible information that we're getting over to the police."  She continues, "We have helped with several arrests.  We've had several bank robberies in town that we've been able to help with; there have been some shootings that we've been able to give them information that is helping them get to other leads."

Still, Neal says callers always ask, "Is this really anonymous?" And she assures the callers that CrimeStoppers has no caller id, nor can they track you with your IP address if you make an online tip at the CrimeStoppers' website.

Neal says they have a scrambling mechanism that prohibits them from finding out who called or emailed.
