Falling tree knocks out power to traffic lights in Richmond Hill

RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) -

Coastal Electric Cooperative crews are making permanent repairs and re-configuring circuits after a large tree fell on power lines at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Harris Trail in Richmond Hill Tuesday morning.

The tree fell around 12:20 a.m., disrupting power to the hotel corridor including Richmond Hill High School, the elementary school and Main Street subdivision. Power was restored by 3:20 a.m. but the traffic light at U.S. Highway 17 and Harris Trail remained out Tuesday afternoon. Richmond Hill police officers were directing traffic.

According to Coastal Electric Cooperative, the tree was likely damaged due to recent storms.
