New 'Eagle Nation on Parade' statue unveiled to honor the fight against cancer

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

The American Cancer Society teamed with East Georgia Regional in Statesboro for the unveiling of a soaring statue to recognize the fight against cancer.

It’s part of Georgia Southern University’s “Eagle Nation on Parade” project.

They commissioned a local artist to come up with a theme. Local families of cancer patients sponsored the statue with their late loved ones’ names on it.

“The spots on there are for people who've lost their battle with cancer. Their friends and family wanted them to be etched in stone, basically,” said Robin Peeples, American Cancer Society.

They began this project two years ago, and the new statue is titled, “Hope”.
