Savannah-Chatham Metro police are looking for a suspect who robbed a cab driver at gunpoint near White Bluff Road.
It happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday, in fact Alderman Tony Thomas, District 6, was at his office when he heard the commotion of police cars flying by searching for the suspect.
A woman had just parked at the Windsor Crossing Apartments. As she got out, she noticed a guy standing at the back of her car pointing a gun and demanding her cash.
The suspect then took off through a fence that leads to White Bluff Road.
This is just one of several incidents like this in the area and Alderman Thomas said not only is this frustrating, but he now has a front row seat to the crime.
"You know, there again, there's one incident where there's a person with a gun, running around in a neighborhood that's robbing people. It takes 15 or so officers or more to go in and engage that person that's taking away from proactive patrolling and trying to make sure other areas are safe,” said Alderman Thomas.
According to the police report, the suspect is described as a black man with a short afro, wearing all black. He stands between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches, weighing about 150 pounds.
Alderman Thomas is holding an emergency crime meeting for the Coffee Bluff area next Tuesday, Sept. 1st at 6:30 p.m. at The Crusader Center.
Police officials will be on hand to listen and take any information.
