Federal grant allows Savannah Fire and Emergency Services to add 25 positions

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Twenty-five new firefighters will soon be added to Savannah Fire & Emergency Services, thanks to a $3.5 million federal grant.

The Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant will help the department become fully compliant with National Fire Protection Association staffing requirements.

The money will be available in January and will provide the full cost of salaries and benefits for the new firefighters for two years. After that, the city of Savannah will assume those costs.
