St. Joseph's/Candler donated supplies to two local elementary schools

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Students at Garden City and Spencer Elementary Schools have some nice, new school supplies thanks to St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Angels of Mercy Volunteer Corps.

For more than a decade, employees at St. Joseph’s/Candler have collected supplies for students in high-risk neighborhood schools. The supplies are donated during the month of July and August each year to offset the cost to those families who may not be able to afford them.

"This year we collected almost 67-thousand pieces of school supplies for these great kids with these great smiles! It was such a treat to come here and donate,” said Barbara Gates, St. Joesph’s/Candler Angels of Mercy.

"I was like ‘wow!’ They donated all this stuff. This is generous,” said Eunique’ Wilson, fifth grader.

The supplies are donated each year in memory of the late Danny Brown, former vice president of Human Resources at St. Joseph's/Candler.
