Memorial Health turns the fountain gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The fountain outside of Memorial University Medical Center is now gold.

The new color highlights September as Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

Tuesday, there was an ice cream social and banner signing in honor and memory of children who have battled childhood cancer. The banner will be hung in the hospital for the rest of the month.

"It is really humbling to have families here and the children here who have actually beat and are survivors of cancer. Many different kinds of cancer, but they're really here as a testament of their conviction to deal with cancer," said Bill Lee, senior vice president at the Children’s Hospital.

Memorial Health partnered with nonprofit 'CURE Childhood Cancer' for Tuesday’s event.

'CURE' is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, education and support.
