At least three armed robberies have been reported in Beaufort County since Monday, all of which are unrelated.
Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said one armed robbery is especially unique because the suspect is so unlike a typical suspect.
"It's a female subject, and we don't have a lot of armed robberies with female subjects,” said Capt. Bob Bromage, BCSO.
Capt. Bromage called the recent armed robbery at the Jared Vault at Tanger Two in Blufton particularly odd.
"Acted like she was shopping for a few minutes, and then held up the employees in the store at gunpoint,” said Capt. Bromage.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, just minutes after the store opened for business.
Capt. Bromage said the suspect is described as a slender, Caucasian female. Standing 5 feet 6 inches, wearing purple and blue striped skirt, a lavender shirt and a black hat.
"Forced them to the back of the store, and then bound them. She then went through the display cases, and stole an undetermined amount of jewelry,” said Capt. Bromage.
There were no shoppers in the store at the time, and the suspect got away.
Even though this incident is unrelated to any others in Beaufort County this week, investigators believe it could be connected with similar crimes in neighboring states.
"This may be related to two other cases. One out of Georgia and one out of Florida, in which the same MO was employed by the female subject,” said Capt. Bromage.
The incidents are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers.
