Fort Stewart well tests positive for contamination, boil all water before drinking

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Officials at Fort Stewart are telling those on base not to drink the water as one of the major wells there has been found with fecal indicators.  That means the water may be contaminated with human or animal waste.

As a result, everyone on base is being asked to boil water for at least one minute before using it to bath, cook, drink, and make ice, clean dishes or brush teeth. Bottle water is the other option.

The contaminated water can cause short-term health effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.
