Rally to improve child birth held in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Mothers, women, and even some fathers braved the rain on Monday to rally for better birthing care.

These advocates want to spread their message of evidence-based care and humanity in childbirth.

Evidence-based maternity care means - practices that have been shown by the highest quality, most current medical evidence, to be most beneficial to mothers and babies - to reduce injuries, complications, and death.

"You know, women are smart, and women know really what they want, but they don't always know that they have options. We are here to give information to them to let them know that they can take charge in being the decision-making role in their maternity care, and they should be respected. Informed consent and informed refusal; anything that they are not comfortable with,” said Christine Rushing, Spokesperson, Savannah Local Rally.

This is the fourth year local mothers in the Savannah area participated in the rally, which happens all over the country.
