Statesboro Olive Garden provides meals to firefighters on Labor Day

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Firefighters with the Statesboro Fire Department who are working Monday, received a hot meal this Labor Day from Olive Garden.

Representatives from Olive Garden delivered a “thank you” lunch for the firefighters’ ongoing dedicated service to the community.

Firefighters at Station 2 said they are thankful for the recognition.

"It means a lot to have Olive Garden come out and show their support. As firefighters these guys are here every day. We are here 365, seven days a week, holidays, weekends, Christmas morning, there is somebody here, so we do appreciate the community support,” said Capt. Chris Moore, Station 2, Statesboro.

This is the 14th year Olive Garden restaurants across the country have prepared food for first responders, and this year is special after one Statesboro Olive Garden employee suffered a house fire a few months ago.

"Earlier in the year, Ashley and Kenny, two of our team members their house burned down, halfway burned down. So, of course the first responders were there with the fire department and they helped us out. And obviously they saved their house. So, this is our thank you on Labor Day as a thank you for helping our team members out and the community,” said Gabriel Mroz, Olive Garden manager.

Those team members who had the fire at their home said the firefighters even rescued their pets, with one firefighter giving his own oxygen mask to their cat to revive it.

They said they could not be more grateful for their help.
