2015 Heritage Day celebrated in historic Ebenezer

Dozens of families headed out to the Jerusalem Lutheran Church at historic Ebenezer to celebrate 2015 Heritage Day.

Hosted by the Georgia Salzburger Society, Monday’s event featured fun for all. Including candle making, butter churning, children’s crafts and cast-iron cooking, peach fritters, lemonade and barbeque lunches.

Event organizers said Monday is meant to teach kids the history of Ebenezer and the Salzburgers arrival to the town in 1734.

"I like them to walk away with a thing of just community, fellowship, remembrance of all of the struggles our ancestors went through and that’s why we're here. Otherwise if they weren't successful, most of us wouldn't be here,” said Gary Nizzi, president of the Georgia Salzburger Society.

Monday’s event wrapped up around 3 p.m., with a hayride, grounds tour and a German music farewell performed by the Crabettes.
