A new candidate officially in the running to be Savannah’s next 6th District Alderman.
Local businessman David Self, announced his candidacy Wednesday, challenging 16-year incumbent Tony Thomas.
Self is originally from Virginia and has lived in Savannah for 10 years.
He said the issue at the top of his list, if elected, is stopping the crime issue plaguing the city.
"The first thing we need to do is empower our police chief and give him the tools he needs to re-staff an understaffed and overworked police department. We need transparency downtown and we need people that will tell us the truth,” said Self.
Voting for the 6th District Alderman is Nov. 4th.
