Coast Guard rescues two missing boaters near Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Coast Guard rescued two missing boaters Friday morning on the southern shore of Pine Island, Georgia.

Coast Guard officials say Ronnie Hardin and Jonna Brian, both adults, were rescued by a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, when a grounded vessel that matched the description of the missing boat was discovered. The two boaters were brought aboard Station Tybee's boat and taken to the Skidaway Boat Ramp.

Family members reported the boaters missing Thursday evening. The initial report stated that one of the men had called his family to report his 14-foot long aluminum vessel was taking on water due to rain.

According to the Coast Guard, an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was issued to notify boaters in the area of the situation and a Coast Guard crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Savannah was launched to search by air.

Neither of the two boaters reported having serious injuries.
