Savannah/HHI Airport recieved grant Friday morning from Federal Aviation Administration

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The City of Savannah holding a special meeting Friday morning to accept a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

The $3.7-million grant will relocate Airport Maintenance Road, replace lighting on one of the taxiways, and improve two runways and add more gates.

"Over the years we have re-built and reconfigured the airport to meet FAA standards and this is part of our ongoing process. As FAA standards change, we upgrade the airfield to meet them, that's what we are doing,” said Director of Engineering George Fidler.

Construction on these improvements are already underway. This is all part of a five-year plan to improve the Savannah Hilton Head International Airport.
