Liberty City Community Center expansion opens

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

City and county officials gathered Wednesday with area residents to celebrate the completion of the Liberty City Community Center expansion.

The new wing of the building is 4,800 square feet, and includes a multi-purpose room that seats 175 people, an exercise room, game room, utility space and restrooms.

Through a two-way partnership, Chatham County developed the project and provided SPLOST funding, and the City of Savannah will maintain and operate the facility. It's an improvement that brought a big smile to those who utilize the center on a regular basis.

"I just love it. And I think it is really nice for people to get together and do these things for older people. And it is simply beautiful,” said Eva Jackson, Liberty City senior.

Liberty City community members praised the efforts and cooperation between the city and county to get the expansion completed, and also called for the creation of more parking spaces to accommodate the center's needs.
