Vietnam Veteran MIA/POW ceremony held at Fort Stewart

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Fort Stewart hosted its annual Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 789’s POW/MIA ceremony Friday evening.

The ceremony began around 6 p.m. at the Marne Garden, with guest speaker Brigadier General James Blackburn.

All of the veterans in attendance, stressing the importance of recognizing our prisoners or war, missing in action not only Friday, but every day.

"We need to take time to remember that we still have service people missing in the wars. Especially the Vietnam War. And we need to take time from our life to remember that," said Adna Romanza Chaffee IV, Vietnam Veteran.

"We are involved in the community as well with our organization and we try to help wherever we can. We've met every flight since 1990 that returns from the Mideast,” said Gail Colbert, head nurse, 95th Evac.

Friday’s ceremony also included a reading of all of Georgia's POW/MIA’s, followed by a moment of silence.
