Boy run over by tractor on Lady's Island expected to be okay

LADY'S ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Emergency responders are saying the 14-year-old boy who was crushed by a tractor on Lady’s Island on Saturday is expected to be okay.

A little after noon on Saturday, the Lady’s Island Fire Department responded to a crushing on Meadow Brook Road.

When they arrived, they found the boy had been run over by a small tractor while bush hogging. Responders found the boy face down, with severe head trauma.

He was flown to MUSC in Charleston.

"From what I gather, he's actually doing pretty well. He's expected to make a full recovery. It's going to be a long road to recovery, but he's expected to make a full recovery,” said Branden Beaton, firefighter at Lady’s Island-St. Helena Fire District.

Beaton was one of the emergency responders who arrived at the scene on Saturday.

He said in his 10 years of working at the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District, he's never seen something like what happened this weekend.
