Bluffton PD make arrests in illegal night club operation

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Nine people are behind bars after the Bluffton Police Department executed a search warrant into an illegal night club operation on Saturday night.

Police said Burroughs Bar and Grill night club on Persimmons Road has been operating without a business license, and without an alcohol license. Officer Jake Higgins with the BPD is leading an ongoing investigation into the situation, with assistance from South Carolina’s Law Enforcement Division. He told WTOC they discovered the illegal operation accidently.

"Our officers had responded to a call two nights prior for an assault, that had taken place, and that started the ball on why we needed to look into it,” said Officer Higgins.

The club’s business owner, Keith Fernandez, is charged with possession of a firearm, as well as illegal storage of liquor, and operating without proper licenses or permits.

Two employees, Michael Horowitz and Carlos Jimenez, are also charged with operating without a permit.

In addition to those three, six customers face various charges including possession of narcotics, possession of firearms, disorderly conduct and more.
