Catholic Diocese of Savannah begin trip to visit Pope while in U.S.

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Bishop Kevin Boland and Bishop Gregory Hartmeyer from the Diocese of Savannah are in Washington D.C.

They landed in Washington not long before Pope Francis’ plane touched down in the United States.

Although they said there’s no guarantee that they will meet the Pope, Bishop Boland said just being in his presence will be enough.

"You're near someone or hear someone in person who is having such an impact on the world. Every time he says something it's very profound but it's very simple. And, he is like not only talking to the Bishops and the priests, but he's talking to the world and to all different faiths. That it is time for us to look at the world that we have and what a gift it is and how we must take care of it,” said Bishop Boland.

The Bishops plan to follow the Pope's journey as he travels throughout Washington in the coming days.
