Children's Hospital fundraiser surpasses goal by a long shot

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A local gun group was aiming to raise $25,000 for the new stand-alone Children’s Hospital at Memorial Health.

Not only did the Lowcountry Annie Oakleys meet their goal, they surpassed it by a long shot.

They raised four times their goal, putting them at the $100,000 mark.

The Lowcountry Annie Oakleys also had a great turnout for Friday’s shooting event, it was sold out.

More than 40 teams were there. Folks said they were happy to help sick kids in the area.

Their initial goal of $25,000 would have bought one patient room, but since they raised so much, their money will go toward something bigger.

"They're going to be very proud to have their name on a pediatric operating room, one of four,” said Jackie Rabinowitz, Lowcountry Annie Oakleys.

"This is a community event and a community asset. It's great to see our community rally around this idea of creating a free standing children's hospital,” said Bill Lee, senior vice president of the Children’s Hospital of Savannah.

The shooting portion of the event now over, and they are holding a reception Friday afternoon. That’s where they’ll present the big check to Memorial.
