Online system helps police track and find stolen valuables

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department are promoting awareness of a free and secure online database to help citizens keep track of personal property and help increase the odds of recovering stolen items.

Citizens can access this database by logging on the ReportIt website to record serial numbers and upload scanned receipts and images of valuables.

ReportIt is part of LeadsOnline, an online system that works with police across the country to help identify and recover items.

When items are pawned or sold, the product information is entered into the LeadsOnline database and is immediately accessible to law enforcement agencies.

These records may also be useful when filing claims with insurance providers in the event of loss.

Anyone interested in building a personal property inventory list can visit http://reportit.leadsonline.com.
