STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - If you're a crime victim or you're in a car crash, the paperwork afterward can be frustrating.
Statesboro Police Department hope to make all that a little smoother by their reports being online. A new website allows for police reports not only to save the public's time, but officers and staff as well.
The new site allows crime or crash victims to find their report and print what they need for insurance claims 24/7.
Cpl. Justin Samples said it will also save the department time and paper. It also gives the public more information.
"If people see something happening in their neighborhood and they want to know what happened, if there was an incident report filed, they'll be able to see it on here," said Cpl. Samples.
Another feature they're still working on allows people to file a complaint online for certain types of crimes.
"Instead of having an officer come to your house and you don't want your neighbors to see the police car in the driveway or you don't have to come all the way up here, you'll be able to file it online," said Cpl. Samples.
The site will advise victims to call police for more serious crimes. This doesn't mean you can't get in touch with police or talk face to face.
"Any time a citizen wants an officer to come to them to file a report, we'll still do that," said Cpl. Samples.
Samples says as soon as they get the online report filing up and running, they'll let everyone know.
