SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A fundraising event was held Friday night with one mission. To send an entire Honor Flight of veterans to Washington D.C.
Tons of people headed out to the Army National Guard Armory to try and raise $15,000.
The theme for Friday's event was "Casino Night", filled with "gambling", a silent auction, free food and drinks.
The Honor Flight of Savannah takes our local World War 2, Vietnam and Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials honoring their significant sacrifices during those wars.
If the funds are available, they'll make two trips in one year.
"We believe in veterans. A lot of us are veterans. We do what we can for veterans here in the community and this is just a great opportunity to get some guys a chance of a lifetime, to see their memorial in Washington, D.C that they earned and we're going to get it for them. We're going to get that trip for them," said Veterans United Home Loans branch manager Shawn Workman.
Some organizations teaming up to put on Friday's event included 9-Line Apparel and Service Brewery. One hundred percent of the proceeds go towards funding the trip.
