BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - As the struggle against the floodwaters continues in South Carolina, dozens of local Lowcountry firefighters are headed upstate to help out.
Twenty-four Beaufort County firefighters are being deployed to assist other departments working in some of the most dangerous parts of the state.
Capt. Randy Hunter with the Bluffton Township Fire District tells WTOC they also sent 12 firefighters to Clarendon County.
"Get these firefighters the ability to now go home, and start taking care of some of their problems that they may have from the high water. So we're going to send guys up there to cover, while they go home and take care of their business," said Capt. Hunter.
Hunter said he knows other crews would do the same if the Bluffton Township Fire District ever needed help.
The firefighters will remain upstate for at least the next three days.
