3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment redesign ceremony

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Wednesday at Hunter Army Airfield, 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment casing its colors and re-flaging as the 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment.

The battalion dates back to 1963, when it was activated in Germany.

It’s transformed many times over the years, along with serving in Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, among others.

"There are many veterans of these organizations that really feel strongly about the 3-17. I feel that the weight of that, as a commander, to ensure that this squadron continues the rich traditions and the striving for excellence that all of the past commanders and soldiers have accomplished,” said LTC. John Broam, Commander 3-17 CAV.

The unit has called Hunter Army Airfield home since 1996 and has been an active member of the Savannah community.
