CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Myers Middle School will continue on its regular operating schedule Thursday, Oct. 8th.
The school was evacuated due to heightened levels of Freon Gas in certain areas of the facility Wednesday. Several students and one school faculty member was taken to local hospitals after complaining of chest pain, headaches and issues breathing.
According to Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, the facility and the operational systems have been investigated by fire department officials, SCCPSS maintenance staff, and an independent environment consulting agency.
Their findings have deemed the facility clear and no Freon has been detected in the building.
There will be a district maintenance staff at the school who will continue to monitor the situation throughout the evening. Fire officials will also conduct a safety check before students arrive Thursday morning.
