SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Soldiers took a walk in the footsteps of those who fought in the Battle of Savannah 236 years ago Friday.
Each year, the Coastal Heritage Society comes together to reenact the March to the Battlefield which is now known as Battlefield Park.
A wreath laying and remembrance ceremony was also held as well as a dedication of some new commemorative stones that represent the 800 or so lives that were lost that day.
"It just makes it very meaningful considering the challenges that our country faces today. History teaches us to hope, and so we can look at the tremendous challenges our ancestors went through and endured and the teamwork that they demonstrated to overcome these challenges," said Aaron Bradford, reenactor.
Descendants of those marked on the stones came from as far away as Arkansas, Tennessee and Maryland to take part in the ceremony.
