CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - You can get your pets updated on their rabies shots Saturday at the Animal Control Office on Sallie Mood Drive.
New numbers show the shots could mean life or death for your furry friend.
Savanah Chatham Animal Control tells us that they are averaging about 10 confirmed rabies cases this year, and those are just the animals that they catch.
Christine Sutherlin with Animal Control tells WTOC that 75 percent of bite reports or exposures are with animals not up to date on their vaccinations.
This often leads to quarantine, and euthanasia for affected pets.
"It is very important because we have the potential for rabies exposure year round. We have an abundance of wildlife. We have bats that are indigenous to here. Those present issues because they can be carriers and not necessarily exhibit the signs of rabies," said Christine Sutherlin, Savannah Chatham Animal Control.
You can bring your dog or cat to Animal Control on Sallie Mood Drive Saturday and get your pet up-to-date on rabies shots for just $10.
