SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Fleet Feet Savannah's one mile "Hero Run" kicked off at about 7 p.m. beginning in Candler Hospital's parking lot and ended in the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Their motivation to keep going? Inspiration by the breast cancer survivors waiting to greet them at the finish line.
"Everyone's a hero. Each and every person in one way or the other. The ones that sponsor down to the ones that take care of the ones that are going through chemo. These are all the heroes. They are the ones that keep the morale going," said Maria Small, four year breast cancer survivor.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, you can head to the Chatham County Health Department on Eisenhower Drive for a free mammogram. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins will be accepted.
