GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) - Mayoral candidates in Garden City took part in a public forum Thursday night.
Don Bethune, Scott George, and Gary Monroe all heard from the public at the Garden City Recreation Center.
The candidates, vying for resident's votes and hoping to succeed outgoing Mayor Tennyson Holder.
One of the hot topics Thursday night was whether the city should implement a freeport exemption on manufacturers' inventory.
This applies to goods either under production, finished or being stored in Garden City facilities.
"Local elections are just as important as federal elections and state elections because this is home for us and what happens here matters," said Gerald Ethridge, Garden City resident.
"You get a feel for a candidate when you hear them talk in person instead of someone coming back to you and telling you different things or giving you a reason why you should vote for one person or the other. So I basically want to hear it from the horse's mouth and know what they have to say," said Wayne Joyner, Garden City resident.
