Children's Hospital of GA unveils renovated radiology department

A Children's Hospital of Georgia patient got to do the honors of cutting the ribbon to unveil the newly renovated pediatric imaging suite.

Along with new state-of-the-art MRI machines, the rooms where kid's get x-rays allows them change the lighting to their favorite color. There is also a miniature 'kitten-scanner' that breaks down imaging through the eyes of a child by guiding a toy animal through a mock x-ray machine.

Dr. James Rawson, chair of the radiology department, said the goal was to make patients as comfortable as possible.

"The pediatric radiology department is a place where children come to get their imaging studies done. We view patients and their families as our partners. They were partners with us in the design of all of this and that's why I think this is a better experience for them because they talked and we listened," said Rawson.

Rawson said the department performs close to 200,000 radiology procedures a year.
