SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Exchange Club of Savannah held its annual event to honor its Firefighter of the Year.
Four men were awarded for going above and beyond the call of duty for service in the community.
Christopher Mills was named Firefighter of the Year, Casey Haugen was named Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, Douglas Struble was awarded Paramedic of the Year, and Chase Bellmor was named Rookie Firefighter of the Year.
One of the chairmen for the Exchange Club explained why these men deserve the recognition.
"It is such an honor to homeland heroes. Because these guys are out there every day on the street, and many times they are off duty. They will hear calls and respond to them, and help out their neighbors, and help out their community. They will even go across Chatham County to help out somewhere else," said Hugh Futrell, chairman of the Exchange Club.
The Exchange Club also honored the Teacher of the Month and Student of the Month Monday.
