TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Tybee Island Maritime Academy will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 28th, in anticipation of expected flooding and road closures caused by high tides.
Classes will resume Thursday, Oct. 29th at 8:45 a.m., according to school officials.
WTOC spoke with one Maritime teacher Tuesday afternoon who told us teachers and students who lived off the island actually attended class at May Howard Elementary School on Wilmington Island Tuesday.
"I think that it was a very smart call. It's very dangerous having your children in three or four different places and making sure that the staff is there and everyone is safe. The May Howard teachers were wonderful. They opened their arms, they opened their classrooms. They let us come in and you know, we just did what we do," said Marie Burke, teacher at Tybee Island Maritime Academy.
