SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A pilot program aimed at making a more welcoming and safe environment for people living, working and visiting downtown Savannah is gearing up to hit the streets.
The Savannah Ambassador Program is now in the second day of all day training, and six hires are preparing for any situation they might encounter while on the job.
Each ambassador is a temporary full-time employee for the duration of the program, and each has a unique background and skill set to offer.
One woman we spoke to worked for decades as a financial advisor, and before that in public relations and as an owner of a catering business.
"It's going to be fun, it's going to be challenging, and it's going to be a learning experience. And you know, God forbid, we should never stop learning and having a good time, and I think we'll be able to do all of that," said Marysue McCarthy, Savannah Ambassador.
The ambassador program has six people hired, and they're still looking for more. They hope to have ten to twelve ambassadors by the end of next month.
